Antisemitism, Free Speech and Institutional Neutrality at Cornell
A nineteen-year-old Cornell student made the news on June 13 when he turned down an interview offer for a summer job because the employees are Jewish. He said he was “not interested in working for a Jew”. The student later explained that he had unpleasant experiences with Jews. The student claims he has been “doxxed” by Jewish business owners. A fundraising site has raised $24,000 for expenses supposedly resulting from his “doxxing”. The story raises important questions about

Cornell Governance Needs an Independent Voice
Have you ever wondered who owns and governs Cornell University? The answer is surprisingly unclear and complex. The same can be said, more or less, about the ownership and governance of many institutions of higher education. Perhaps that is why higher education in United States is in such need of reform, and why independent voices are needed to advance reform. Unclear Ownership Cornell University’s primary corporate entity is Cornell University, Inc., (hereafter, “Cornell”)

A Call for Fiscal Responsibility at Cornell
Cornell University, like most private institutions of higher education, is very expensive. It was not always this way. When I attended Cornell from 1978 to 1982, the four-year total of tuition and fees (excluding room and board) was $22,916 in current dollars which is $81,336 in 2024 dollars. When my daughter attended Cornell from 2014 to 2018, the four-year total tuition and fees had ballooned to $200,208 in current dollars, or $255,480 in 2024 dollars. (see chart below; d

Anthony A. DelGreco, Class of 1982, Civil Engineering I am running for Alumni Trustee for Cornell University, as a Petition Candidate. I will not be endorsed by the Cornell nomination process. Only alumni who could be expected to maintain the status quo receive an endorsement. The following is an explanation of why I am running. The first step is admitting you have a problem.
12 Steps for Cornell to Break Through the Monoculture! This week, City Journal published an extraordinary interview with Vanderbilt University Chancellor Daniel Diermeier, titled “ Vanderbilt University’s Chancellor Sees the Problem—Can He Find a Solution? ” In it, Diermeier does something rare among university presidents: he acknowledges that higher education has a free speech problem. He recognizes that elite campuses have drifted into groupthink, self-censorship, and id

CFSA has aligned with the American public since its founding in 2021. In August 2023, CFSA proposed reforms to Cornell that would have proactively addressed many of the Trump Administration's demands on Harvard. CFSA is pleased that the Trump Administration's views on the need for reform in higher education resonate with the American people.

What Happened to Cornell?
Cornell was always a place that challenged me — intellectually, personally, morally. It was a place that stood for rigor, openness, and a restless pursuit of truth. And it gave me more than an education; it gave me the conviction that serious people could disagree honorably, learn from one another, and emerge better for it.
That is why it breaks my heart to say this: the Cornell I knew is slipping away.

Rethinking the Role of the American University: Intellectual Diversity, Public Funding, and the Future of Research
Elite American universities have long positioned themselves as beacons of knowledge, academic rigor, and the fearless pursuit of truth. Yet today, many such institutions—including Cornell—are struggling to live up to that mission. What happens when a university ceases to function as a university and instead begins to resemble an ideologically driven think tank? And if that’s the case, should the public still be paying the bill?

Elite Universities at a Crossroads: Reflections on Steven Pinker’s Defense of Harvard
In his recent article for The New York Times, Harvard professor Steven Pinker offers a robust defense of America’s elite universities, particularly his own. Pinker’s argument—that these institutions, despite their flaws, deserve protection and continued support—has triggered a wave of reflection among those of us deeply concerned with the future of higher education. At the Cornell Free Speech Alliance (CFSA), we believe this moment requires not only reflection but real, corre
